๐Ÿœ Horseback Riding in the Okanagan ๐Ÿœ

It’s spring time here in the South Okanagan, and I can hear the birds chirping when I wake up each morning! The workers at the vineyards and orchards are busy trimming, and I’m excited to see the when the flowers start to bloom. It will be a very colorful sight! And the golf course at the resort, Sonora Dunes opens! Because now its very nice and sunny all the time! The temperature is about 15C (59F). The daylight is longer, and I enjoyed watching the sunset behind the mountain from the balcony of the condo weโ€™re staying. And because itโ€™s so nice to be outside, we decided to go horseback riding at a place very close to Spirit Ridge Resort where we are staying.

It is just a two minutes walk. Once we arrived at the stable, we waited for our horses to get saddled up before we could ride them. I was assigned to a horse named Thunder, my mom was assigned Chubby, and my dad’s horse was Tiny Tim. But that horse was FAR from tiny! ๐Ÿ˜‚ he was probably the biggest horse there! I brought my bike helmet along to keep my brain safe ๐Ÿ˜œ if the horse ever wanted to get rid of meee! I mounted Thunder and let him wander around the pen until it was time to go! Once everyone else was on their horses, we went off into the dessert! Itโ€™s not a true dessert, but dessert-like region in Canada. Click here to read my post about Osoyoos, British Columbia. Thunder, my horse was a bit jumpy at the start, but by the end of the ride he was fine. Our guide said most of the horses they had were wild horses. Maybe thatโ€™s why!

We went all the way through the desert, and mostly silver sage brush and antelope brush growing in the dessert. This area we rode was actually another piece of indigenous land. You had to get special permission from the Osoyoos Indian Band to be on the land, and the only way to get on the land was to take a horse back riding tour with a guide. It was a nice horsey walk on a nice (er… horsey?) day. It was an hour ride through the brush land with the nice view or Osoyoos Lake and the cascade mountains. The rest of the ride was very nice and peaceful!

Hereโ€™s a video of our ride. You can follow me on my YouTube Channel or on my Instagram to see my day to day post.

Do you like horses? Have you ever been horse back riding?

We did that in Colorado and also in New Mexico

Was really awesome!! Sometimes would be next to cliffs ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜ฎ but those horses are massively sturdy and very well footed with those paths โค๏ธ

  5. So delighted you had this experience. My daughter, Susan, is an expert horse person and has authored a comprehensive book on horses’ hooves. I’m forwarding this post to her. All the best, Muriel

    1. Thatโ€™s cool! Maybe Iโ€™ll read your daughterโ€™s book! Thank you for reading!๐Ÿค

  6. So glad you got to enjoy some time with horses. They are very special animals with so much to offer us, if we offer the best of ourselves to them in turn. I work with horses and write about them for a living. If you ever become a horse owner yourself, you might want to check out my book, “The Essential Hoof Book” which is all about their feet!

    1. Cool! I donโ€™t think Iโ€™ll ever become a horse owner, but ya never know! Horses are neat! ๐Ÿค
