Hello everyone! Today, I’m going to keeping up with the “rock” theme. Here are more famous rocks, they are the Hopewell Rocks, or Flowerpot Rocks. It is located in Hopewell Cape, New Brunswick. It is one of the iconic landmark in New Brunswick, it’s in every brochure and tourist guide. Why is it so special? It is because you can walk on the ocean floor when it’s low tide, plus kayak or swim when it’s high tide! Isn’t that amazing! Hopewell Rocks is located in the Bay of Fundy which has the highest tides in the world.

• The moon has big effect on the tides. During a full moon, there is a greater than normal gravitational pull, causing higher than normal tides.
• The tides rise up to thirteen vertical feet (four meters) per hour and can reach a height of up to forty-six feet (fourteen meters). That’s as high as a four story building!
• The motion of 160 billion tonnes of water mixing with silt from the mud flats makes the water brown. This creates the “Chocolate River” effect, known around the world.

It really is amazing to see the rocks. The last time I was there, was when I was only two years old. Now, ten years later, I’m back. This time I really appreciated the beauty and wonder of these rocks. The tides and the winds help shaped these amazing rocks.

Before you go, you want to check the tides schedule. Here’s the link: Hopewell Rocks. Decide if you want to hike on the ocean floor, but make sure you are wearing a proper shoes. It’s slippery on the ocean floor especially in the muddy area and also by the sea weeds. Also be mindful of the tide schedule you do not want to be trapped on the ocean floor. Honestly, I never been kayaking there. Maybe, I will try when I’m a little older. On more thing, it’s a fifteen minute walk down to the staircase then a more steps to the ocean floor. Be prepared to do a lot of walking. It’s easy to walk down, but you also have to walk up. There’s also a shuttle for a small fee if you don’t want to walk. It will take about six and a half hours to completely cover the ocean floor. So to see the dramatic changes you have to stay at the park longer. The ticket is good for two consecutive days.

This was one of the highlights of my summer. My family and I explored our province more because traveling was restricted due to COVID-19. I’m actually glad because New Brunswick is a beautiful Atlantic province.
