Gîte du Mont-Albert

Located in the heart of Parc national de la Gaspésie, Gîte du Mont-Albert is known for it’s warm hospitality, fine local cuisine, and uniqueness. My parents and I took another road trip this time to northern Quebec (the French speaking province in Canada). But don’t worry because the staff are very friendly and they can speak English too. My dad heard about this place from the owner of the furniture store where we bought all our stuff. The man was married to a woman that from northern Quebec. He was raving about how awesome the food was, and because my dad loves French cuisine, we gave it a try.

We would like to go on the first week of August, but it was booked solid so we were able to book it on the third week of August. It was an eight hour drive from where we live so we got up early in the morning and we arrive at Gîte du Mont-Albert just enough time to enjoy and relax at the pool. Then we got dressed up for our first fancy meal!

Well, it did not disappoint, and it was really delicious. The meal comes with a soup to start, but my dad ordered an extra tomato salad. For the entree, dad had steak and roasted vegetables, mom had a seafood risotto, and I had chicken tenders with fries and salad. For dessert, I had macarons of course! I loved it because it was bigger than the normal size. My parents both ordered creme brûlée for dessert. My dad has been trying creme brûlées in different restaurant and comparing them to de which one is the best. So far, his favorite is the creme brûlée from The Bear, The Fish The Root, and The Berry Restaurant in Osoyoos, British Columbia. (The name’s a mouthful, I know)

We had a full stomach after that big meal! What do you do when you had a big meal? Lie down in bed and watch T.V. of course!

The next morning we prepared ourselves for a hike. We needed this hike to burn the calories we ate last night. We had a full breakfast which is included on the package that my dad booked. It is an option that comes up when you book your stay. The hotel can even pack a lunch for you, which we SO took advantage of.

As I mentioned earlier Gîte du Mont-Albert is located in Parc National de la Gaspésie. In the summer, you can hike the hiking trails from easy to expert. It depends on your hiking ability. You can also rent a canoe, kayak, pedal boats, and paddle boards, and lastly you can go fishing. In the winter time, snowshoeing and skiing is for you to enjoy! Tent and RV camping is available in the national park in case you don’t want to stay in the hotel. Like the Death Valley in California or Hawaii, the Gaspé National Park is considered one of the main biodiversity hotspots in North America.

It was a hot summer day 40C degrees (104F). We chose to hike Le Mont-Ernest-Laforce with the elevation of 155 metres, distance 4.6 km, classified as an Intermediate. From the summit we saw the 360-degree breathtaking view of Mont Albert and the surrounding mountain. The view from summit is spectacular, and I can compare it to the mountain ranges in Hawaii. It was worth the hike. Other hikers are relaxing and enjoying the view, and some are having their lunch. Watch my video at the end of this post!

What comes up must come down so we headed down the mountain. At one part of the trail, people are quietly stopped watching something. And it was a huge moose with big antlers busy eating leaves off the trees. We watched for a while from a distance and we continue on. After the tiring hike, we ate the packed lunch we ordered from the hotel. It consist of sandwich of our choice, juice, fruit, nuts, and cheese. There is a waterfall in the park which is a short distance from the hotel so we went to see it before we went back to the hotel for a quick swim at the pool.

After a hot day, we got ready for our second dinner at the hotel. This time my dad had a burger, mom had a halibut, and I had pasta. I had macaron again for dessert. The meal was as delicious as we expected!

That’s for it for this post! I just want to let you know that the cellphone signal is very spotty or no signal at all in the national park. BUT YOU GET 3G ON THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN!! It’s good if you don’t want people to call you while on vacation. Here’s the link for Gîte du Mont Albert and Parc national de la Gaspésie for more information. 1. I’m part French, so I am supremely flattered you love French food! Have you ever read My Life in France by Julia Child? I absolutely love her story, and after training at Le Cordon Bleu myself, I have the utmost respect for her!

    1. Ooooh you’re French? Coooool, can you speak French? Hmm, I haven’t read that book, but I might check it out! (Or better yet I could get the book for free from my job, MWAHAHAHAHA!)

      1. I have extended family and France and lived there the first 2 years of my life. I have been bilingual in French and English my whole life. Hope you can get the book!

          1. Thanks. I am technically 1/8 French because my great-grandmother was French. But I feel more French because I have lived there and learned the culture

    1. Aaah, my only solution for you would to not be a vegitarian, haha! The food is AMAZING!! Have a nice day! 😀

  2. Gosh, this post made me hungry! The French spoken in Northern Quebec is different than that spoken in, for instance, Montreal, where I was born. Interesting province for sure. Enjoy! Muriel

    1. Hehe, wow I didn’t realize that the French in Quebec was different from what they spoke in other places! I guess it’s like the Philippines, my mom can speak two different forms of Tagalog, one that’s understood all throughout the Philippine islands, and the other is one only the people in the “section” I guess, thats where she’s from. 😀
