It Happens Here

Hello everyone, I’m popping in for a quick blog post today, there was a prompt for Digitally Lit that I put down below, and I saw this prompt and I had to go and do it :]

Describe a setting from a book. Tell us what book it’s in and the author, and if relevant, how it connects to the book’s plot. Most importantly, think about the places you’ve been and the places you want to visit.  How does the setting in this book remind you of a place you’ve been to, or a place you want to go to?

Book: Journey to the Hopewell Star by Hannah D State
Book setting: Kryg

Location 1:
A field with yellow flowers glowing and floating everywhere

This picture is from when I went to Butchart Gardens in Victoria, British Columbia! I’ve seen many yellow flowers in my life, but I chose this picture specifically because I think the field of flowers is by the lake. Here there’s a little fountain and I think that’s really cute :]

Location 2:
Domed structure by the lake, greenhouse-like with many plants and trees, flowers, nuts, and berries

Going back to the days of 2020 with this one, this was during Covid, and my family spent some time in the Okanagan Valley, in Osoyoos British Columbia as well. I wanted to add this because it is a domed structure as well, and I feel like it could be used as a greenhouse too! Though it doesn’t have very many flowers or nuts inside, this was what reminded me of the description in my book.

Location 3:
Kassa Lake with turquoise water

I’ve been fortunate enough to see very very many places with turquoise water in my lifetime, so here are just some of them! I added Banff, the beautiful Lake Louise in the winter time, Half Moon Cay in Bahamas with it’s gorgeous gradient ocean (not a lake, I know, but still turquoise water :]), and lastly I added a picture of Mexico, near where I live. The beaches here are very nice!

To top it off, Kryg is still an alien planet and they have an emphasis on environmentalism, yet their planet is largely artificial. Parts of Kryg have been taken out and replaced, so I could imagine something like the Gardens by the Bay trees in Singapore in Kryg. I think they would fit the overall aesthetic of Kryg.

There are a lot of things about Kryg that we as readers have been left to imagining ourselves, not a whole lot about Kryg is stated in the book, but with what we do have I think it’s really fun to figure out the similarities and differences :]

That’s all for right now, I hope y’all have a great rest of your day, more travel posts and book reviews to come <3
