Last Stop: Half Moon Cay

Hello everyone! Who’s ready to read a cool post about… the Bahamas! Yay! This is my last post about my cruise, and I’m sorry I didn’t post this sooner, I have sooo many assignments to submit for school! 🤪

Half Moon Cay is the private island of Holland America. How cool would it be to have a private island? I mean, I could do anything I wanted… Located in Little San Salvador Island about 100 miles (160 km) southeast of Nassau, Bahamas. Holland America Line purchased the island in December 1996 for $ 6 million USD. Holland America developed the island for cruise passengers to enjoy. There are a lot of activities to do on the island such us swimming, sunbathing, scuba diving, jet-skiing, snorkeling, horseback riding, and many, many more. It was a beautiful sunny day when we docked on the island. The shore at Half Moon Cay is too shallow for the cruise to dock at, so we had to take a smaller boat to shore. The turquoise blue water and powdered white sand beach were so inviting! 😍

This was my second time on the island, and we only planed to relax and swim here. I mean, we would’ve went horse back riding, but since the horses go knee deep in the water, my sad couldn’t go because of the wounds on his knee that he got in Puerto Rico. He just brought a book with him to read. We had virgin piña coladas! The perfect drink for a sunny beach day while waiting for lunch, and the cruise prepared a BBQ lunch for everyone! There were salads, fruits, and pastries, burgers, soft serve vanilla and chocolate ice cream, and WILD CHICKENS, YOU GUYS, I WAS TERRIFIED! I’m not a fan of… birds…

My mom and I swam at the beach, and I did some snorkeling while my dad sat and read his book. I saw lots of small fish, and other people said they saw some manta rays. There is also a walking trail on the island, but its too hot to go for a walk. After our swim, we rode the tether back to the cruise ship.

It was another sea day before we headed back to the port in Fort Lauderdale. I love sea days because of afternoon tea, and I love afternoon tea! Those tiny treats and sandwiches are delicious. 😍 If you’ve been following my blog, you’ve read my posts about afternoon teas I’ve had across Canada…

WHY DO WE CRUISE HOLLAND AMERICA?

We’ve cruised with other cruise lines in the past, such as; Carnival Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, and Disney Cruise Line. We’ve found that Holland America treats their passengers the best, the food is great, and it’s civilized. What I mean when I say civilized is that most of the people that cruise with Holland America are 50+. Very few kids, very few teenagers. he demographic of HAL passenger are fifty plus years old.

They have really good shows at night, I loved watching the contemporary ballets! They have a really awesome kids club, although there is a lack of kids on the ships… but I also like that they have people to serve you food on the ship, because at other cruise lines its a serve yourself buffet, and you have NO idea where other passengers’ hands have been.

That concludes my Holland America cruise trip! It was great because I visited two new countries, and it was nice to be able to travel again! Yay! Are you a fan of cruising? Let me know about your cruise experience(s) in the comments down below!

Have a fantastic day, and thank you for reading my post!🤍
