Hello! I hope everyone is keeping warm, because here we’re COLD! The Floridians are freezing… Plus, my friends up in the Great White North are getting temperatures around -20C to -35C (-4F to-22F). Like I said, das COLD! Anyway, we got a nice post for today, about… my trip to Dominican Republic! In Dominican Republic we got to swim with the dolphins! Yay! (Y’know that would’ve been way more of a dramatic reveal if it wasn’t the title of the post…)
My dad has been wanting to swim with the dolphins for a long time, so once he saw that swimming with the dolphins was one of the cruise excursions, he booked it immediately! We were all sound asleep in our little stateroom, and when we woke up, we were at Amber Cove! Amber Cove is located in the province of Puerto Plata, in the island of Dominican Republic! It was my first ever time to go to Dominican Republic, and I had such a great time at Ocean World! Ocean World is a lot like Seaworld because it’s a park themed around Marine life. You don’t have any orcas, but there are dolphins, fish, birds, stingrays, and even sharks! Oh, also the weather was CRAZY! I’m not sure if this is just like a tropical island thing or something, but one minute it would be pouring rain. The rain would go on for a minute or so, then it would get really sunny and hot. Then it would rain again.
We took a bus from the cruise terminal to Ocean World. Our tour guide told us to remember the times for the dolphin show, the sealion show, and the shark feeding. He walked us to the little hut with all the bird in it, they were crazy, and weird, and fluttering their little wings everywhere. I don’t really like birds… well, I mean I like looking at them, they are very pretty, but they also have sharp beaks and talons… I dunno, I just don’t like being near birds. When I went into that hut, I screamed when a bird landed on my head, and I ran to the other side of the room. π My dad got some bird seed though, and all the birds flocked into his hand. He was laughing the whole time because they were very ticklish. Oh, also the birds pooped on my mom’s hat π€
After checking out the birds, we made out way to the dolphin pool. We got on our life jackets, and then hopped in. The dolphin’s name was Skipper, and he was very friendly. Hehehe, my mom was scared because she isn’t a very strong swimmer. Dolphins are very playful creatures, Skipper was very happy to see us, and he was so fun! The first trick he did was swim under everyone’s outstretched hands so we could feel his belly. Dolphins skin feel like a wet slippery smooth rubber. They are very fun, and very cuddly! I would know, because the next thing he did was give me a hug! Then we danced, the trainer blew his whistle and Skipper swam up extended his flippers to me, and then he did the dolphin kick thing with his tail. I’m not a very good dancer though… But the next thing Skipper did was go up and give me a kiss on my cheek, he’s a sweet little dolphin. I fed him some dead fishies. (those things are SLIMY) Then the trainer got out a body board and then once we laid down on it, Skipper, the dolphin pushed us all the wayyyy to the other side of the pool! It was just like body surfing on a wave! A really… really…. BIG, powerful wave! π
Yeah… so I don’t wanna be a lifeguard anymore, I want to be a dolphin trainer, with a pool in my backyard, and a dolphin happily swimming in it! π After our swim with Skipper, we explored the rest of the park. We went snorkeling, and once again I didn’t use a mouthpiece. I filmed underwater with my GoPro! You can watch the video down below! Then I played on the inflatable toys at the man-made beach, and I slide on the waterslides! (be warned, MASSIVE wedges await on that slide…) π
That’s all for today, and it’s also all for our trip to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic! The day was awesome and it will be a very memorable experience for me. Have a lovely day, and stay tuned for more travels and book recommendations! Click here to read my post about Grand Turk.
I just saw this!!!!!!! The first time I clicked the post it was not working correctly. I would defiantly swim with one! You are not kidding! Yesterday evening was the coldest night of the year where I live in Florida! I think it was in the 20’s! (laugh at me you cold state peopleπ€£) This morning we had a pleasant surprise! 2 brand new baby goats!!!! And then later in the afternoon another one of our Mamas had 2! 4 girls all together!
You made an awesome video! How do you and your family decide where to go next?
Ooooh, I hope you get to swim with a dolphin someday! Maybe not in Dominican Republic, but you can do it at Discovery Cove! Lol, yeah my Canadian friend is laughing at me when I say I’m cold! Oh, my gosh, baby goats! AAAAAAAHHHHHH
Oh I love swimming with dolphins-they are so gentle and so fun. Great pictures of you and your family π
