A Visit to Nimbus

Hello! So, the title of this post says “A visit to Nimbus”, and you’re probably wondering what Nimbus is! Well, it is actually the name of the publishing warehouse that I visited in Halifax, Nova Scotia! Nimbus Publishing is the largest English-language publisher east of Toronto! Last week, we went on a road trip again, this time we went to Halifax Nova Scotia. It was only a three and a half hour drive soooo not too far, and that’s great! We went to Halifax because my dad wanted to visit a specific store that he likes, and he wanted to try this four diamond restaurant! I’ll tell you about the dinner later, but for right now, we talk about the books!

We were a bit early for our three o’ clock meeting, so we visited the bookstore/coffee shop. It is called Open Book, and it is attached to the publishing warehouse. It’s like a candy store for books! And even better, because it’s local books! As a Youth Ambassador for Digitally Lit, I help promote Canadian books written by authors from the the Atlantic provinces of Canada (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador) and published by Atlantic publishers! Yay! I think it’s a GREAT idea to have a coffee shop AND a book store in the same place, because then we get to buy and read the books while we enjoy coffee, tea and the baked goods!

SO I got to meet some awesome people! I met Robin, Amanda, and Olivia! They are just some of the amazing people who work at Nimbus! I always work with Robin with anything involving Digitally Lit, and there’s a lot of that, so it was pretty cool to finally meet her in person! I also meet the owners of Nimbus Publishing Company and the other hardworking staff at Nimbus to get those books publish. Olivia gave us a tour of the warehouse, and I’m pretty sure that girl has magical powers because she was able to:

a) find her way around the place

b) memorize the stories of different books so she could give a quick sneak peek of each one, and memorizing important books that have some sort of significance

and

c) tell us alllll about Nimbus Publishing!

We were showed the stock room, the warehouse, the media room, the office, and of course, the room that contained all the books ever published by Nimbus! Nimbus also translates book into different languages, as well as distribute books for other publishers. They also have a recording studio for audiobooks! Did I mention that I was in book HEAVEN? Oh, I also got to raid the warehouse for books. 😄 After our tour we grabbed some ARCs or Advanced Reading Copies. These are pretty much the final but not entirely final editions of the books. Like, they are printed and published, but they only send them out to certain people so the author can see how well the book does, while there’s still room for any corrections or improvements! Anyway, we loaded up on those, and I can’t wait to read and review them all! My favorite part of the entire trip was getting free books!

All of those pictures were taken at the Board Room, y’know, where each and every book Nimbus ever published is kept? (Soon, I hope to add my own book to that shelf 😆) Sooo, all those books total to around 1,600 books and maybe more. That’s a whole lot of books! Also, Nimbus is a very pet friendly place! There are around 9 dogs in the office, everyone who works there can bring their dogs! Buuuuuuut, there aren’t all 9 dogs there at once, that could get pretty CHAOTIC… 😬 The picture below is one of the dogs in the office. Isn’t he cute!?

Aaaand that’s all for this post, everyone! I hope you enjoyed reading, and shout out to all of the amazing staff at Nimbus! 😊👋🏽

You can also check out the Nimbus Publishing Catalogue! For sure you will find a book that you will LOVE! 😍 Watch out for my book reviews! Bye!
