Beverly Hills (who’s Beverly? And why did she get a hill named after her?)

If you loved my post about San Francisco, then you should like this one! Well, I mean, I also hope you like all my posts… Anyway, I got stuff to blog about! So here we go! But first if you want to read my San Francisco post click here.

The drive from San Fran to Beverly Hills was six hours long. If you’re thinking that’s long… it really wasn’t. I’ve been stuck in a car for 26 hours multiple times. (that’s how long it takes to drive down from New Brunswick to Florida). I really just sit there until my butt gets numb, enjoying the scenery and watching Fast and Furious Spy Racers. Best part: that show is set in LA

My dad booked the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills because he loved his stay at The Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong and Manila, Philippines. It’s realllllyyyyy fancy, and there are Rolls Royces with chauffeur that can drive you around Beverly Hills! As we drove, I noticed all the expensive cars people drove, like Rolls Royces, Lamborghinis, Porsches, Ashton Martins, G Wagons… and if you think that G Wagons aren’t a very expensive car, I’ll have you know that they are $300,000 or higher. You could buy a house with that kind of money! But, uh, I’d still say Vancouver has more sports cars… Those Asians are RICH!

When we got in the door, the room was beautiful, with pink flowery curtains, and welcome presents! There was this red velvet cupcake served in a sundae glass with whipped cream and sprinkles, and some fruits. The pillow cases were even monogrammed with my dad’s initials! The rest of the hotel was decorated with all holiday decor, and there was a gingerbread house in the lobby! If I was a gingerbread person, I would be happy to live there! Or… or maybe I’d just eat the whole house, who knows?

My dad requested that a Rolls Royce take us to Rodeo Drive. We walked along the rest of Rodeo Drive, and it was very pretty as well! Christmas decorations here, there, and everywhere! Rodeo Drive is pretty much where all the luxury brands are. Plus, I got a jean jacket from Polo Ralph Lauren as a Christmas present!

After our breakfast at the hotel, we went to Los Angeles. We took the hop-on-hop-off bus tour, because it’s like, the best way to see the city in one day. It’s basically just a tour about Hollywood celebrities. Where they hang out, what was was filmed here or there, and stuff like that. So we didn’t even bother getting off on those stops, and I didn’t really know who the actors they mentioned. We started the tour at the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I did find the hand and shoeprints of the cast of Harry Potter and the cast of Twilight at the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. (why does my computer say “theatre” is misspelled?) We walked on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and flipping MINNIE MOUSE has a star. Really? They give Minnie Mouse a star and not MOI? *shockingly gasps* Adjacent to the Chinese Theatre is the Dolby Theatre. If you are into Hollywood movies, the Academy Awards are held there every year.

One place we DID get off at was the Farmers Market to eat lunch. My mom and I had one of the best Reuben sandwichs we’ve ever had, and my dad had a hotdog. He said it was delicious. We also had homemade ice cream. My dad LOVES some good old fashioned homemade ice cream. But there was this creepy statue called the “Travel Angel” AND IT TERRIFIED ME.

Some others tours are all about visiting studios where the filmed movies, but that doesn’t really interest my parents so much, unfortunately. I would’ve liked to see the Warner Bros. Studio, because Warner Bros. made some of my favourite shows and movies! Like Harry Potter, and Harry Potter is preeetty great! But it was close at the time we were there so maybe next time!

So, if you follow this guy on Instagram or TikTok you probably know him as Salt Bae, and we visited his restaurant in California! Salt Bae is a chef and restauranteur. He dramatically cuts steak, then sprinkles it with salt in the silliest way, letting it trickle allll the wayyy downnn his elbow. And if you’re wondering how this guy got famous, I’ll have you know that there is in fact, a skateboarding traffic cone on TikTok with 3.6 million followers. The world is weird. Nusr-Et Restaurant are in seven other countries. So we made reservations because my dad is crazy about 48 oz. Tomahawk steak. Salt Bae wasn’t there to sprinkle salt any steaks! LOL He is in Dubai! Maybe someday I will see him in Dubai!

I hope you enjoyed reading about my visit to Beverly Hills and Los Angeles. I have one more city that I visited in California so stay tune!

Stay safe and healthy!

  1. That was brave to drive at all in LA. They literally invented the term Road Rage! That’s amazing you were able to see the Chinese Theatre. I did a class on California Geography at UC Berkeley and one guest lecturer had a great presentation about the history of Hollywood. It was the best lecture I’ve ever heard! Also, living in the SF Bay Area for seven years, I learned there is this intense rivalry between SF and LA. Ask a San Franciscan what they think of LA and vice versa and it’s intense! Sometimes it can get a little mean though, which can be a little unfair. I have participated in the banter, but it’s all been in good fun

    1. Wow, I didn’t know about the rivalry between LA and San Francisco! That’s… interesting. It’s funny that in California allll the popular cities/tourist attractions are all fairly close by one another!

      1. The rivalry can definitely get weird. I remember going to LA for a weekend (btw, you picked a good time to go because there’s less smog in December), which was also in December. I went home and said I really enjoyed it, and my Mum (who is a die-hard San Franciscan) said, “You live in the Bay Area. You’re supposed to hate LA!” She was semi-joking when she said it because I already knew about the rivalry

  2. Aw, dang, you were so close to me!! But waaaaaay out of my price range!

Thx for not mentioning how filthy & sad Hollywood is. I hope it eventually gets a cleanup, like Times Square did (easily the filthiest tourist attraction I’d ever seen when I went in 1989, when traffic still went through).

I haven’t done the hop off/onnus, only the TMZ tour – which was really fun!

I’ve been the Dolby 17 times… 16 times seeing Cirque du Soliel IRIS (it was a resident show for 1.5 yrs), and once for a pre-opening tour where I got to stand on the stage (no audience) and walk down the ridiculously deep stage steps (each 12″ deep… I almost had to sit to go down!). The steps made me obsessed with looking at steps for shows… the one’s at SNL look equally as wicked!

I hope you had a good time! Where are/were you headed next???

    1. Overall, I think California is a nice place, but homeless people took over. Sounds like you’ve explored where you live, which is great! Most people don’t explore their areas because it’s like, “Oh, I live right near ______, I can go there any time!” As for where I’m heading next… you’ll just have to wait and see! (I’ll be posting very soon) Have a nice day!

  3. Ps: The development was named “Beverly Hills” after Beverly Farms in Beverly, Massachusetts (which itself is named after Beverley from beaver-lake, in East Yorkshire, England) and because of the hills in the area

  4. Aha! Now you are on what was my turf for many years. I lived in L.A. and worked on Canon Dr. in Beverly Hills, so things there were familiar. I’m sure, however, that since I’ve been living in Vancouver for a time now, things have changed. For instance, I never heard of the hotel you stayed at, and I would have known it if it existed then. Enjoy each day, Muriel
