Four Countries in 32 Hours

32 hours and four countries. Yep. Now that was a pretty big day. From the Gold Coast in the lovely Australia, we flew back to Bali, Indonesia. Click HERE for my post about Bali, in case you might’ve missed it. 😉 From Bali we then had to travel to Mexico city. To get all the way over to the other side of the world and to Mexico City we had to stop over in UAE (Dubai), and Barcelona, before crossing the Atlantic Ocean and reaching our (not-so) final destination of Mexico City. For this long journey, of course my dad wanted a good airline to fly with, and not some airline where they have stiff seats, frozen tvs, and barely feed you *cough* *cough*. So, of course we chose Emirates, which is one of the best airlines in the world. I flew economy and my dad flew in business class lol. Because he’s just like that. You really have to realize that Emirates economy is even better than Air Canada first class 💀. And of course, Emirates business class beats everything. My dad was able to order food whenever he wanted, and they would cook it for him, he had a mini fridge with lots of snacks, and then at night they came and made his seat into a bed. He also brought back a whole bunch of fun stuff like Bulgari necessity kits. (he came around to the back and gave me jelly beans so I forgave him for leaving me in economy).

In total, transit time took 32 hours. Which is a pretty long time, if you ask me. And I was awake for pretty much all of it. I have this thing where I can’t really fall asleep sitting upright, despite having a comfy neck pillow and facemask over my eyes. It’s a struggle. But with Emirates it’s not that bad. They give you lots of food, and it’s actually good, unlike *cough* *cough* some airlines *cough* *cough*

Alternate title: Arielaonthego dissing Air Canada for an entire blog post. (That might just happen.)

There was also something a little bit fun that happened. Well, not fun, but… you know. So we’ve boarded the plane and the next thing we’re supposed to be doing is taking off. But no, we actually sat down on the plane for an hour still at the gate. An announcement was made by the captain, and they said that there was a slight delay due to someone dropping a phone. Somehow that phone fell far enough down into the cargo hold. They had to unload all of the bags that were checked in, and look in the belly of the plane for the phone. See kids, this is exactly why they say “If you drop your phone in the seat, do not try to get it yourself, ask a flight attendant instead.” because you could make the situation worse. In the end we arrived one hour early in Mexico city. Despite the delay, the Emirates team filled the plane with more fuel, and we were able to take a different route and fly faster to get there. It was pretty cool, especially since we ended up flying right over our house. So from Barcelona we flew across the ocean, wayyy up to Canada and then crossed over the United States down into Mexico. It was really cool to fly over my house!

Now we’re going to take a minute to appreciate the Emirates entertainment system because it is top tier. I could watch the entire Harry Potter series (but I didn’t), and I watched some of How to Train Your Dragon 2, and I also listened to a whole bunch of music because they quite literally had anything on there. They had all your western artists like… I dunno, Taylor Swift or… whoever people listen to these days, but they also had K-pop, French music, Spanish music, music from Dubai and other countries and in different languages too. And a lot of movies, plus live channels and podcasts and radio shows. Like you could watch the news. It was pretty cool. I was quite thoroughly entertained.

Time skip forward to when we’ve arrived in Mexico City, and we’re tired and my eyes are red because I’m low on sleep, and we’re snoozing on the beds. We really liked the hotel that we stayed at. For a bit of context, it’s one of those “bespoke” places that aren’t advertised, and you really only hear about them through other people. Like an “if you know, you know” thing. The hotel was really clean, plenty of towels, the room furnished with all locally made Mexican furniture, and there were lots of fun giveaways and complementary things. When you check in they give you locally made all-natural soap, and it’s in big bars, so you tell them which flavour you want (but don’t eat it *intense glaring*), and then they chop it off the big bar and give you a nice little mini one. I got a cinnamon soap, and Daddy and Mummy got coffee ones :p There were also free snacks and drinks! Upstairs there was a lot of Mexican candies in jars, and you could try as many as you want at anytime 24/7. I found that a lot of the Mexican candies were spicy? Like, candies with hot sauce in them. Definitely very interesting. For the adults there was also complementary alcohol which was also self serve and you could get as much as you wanted. Plus, there were drink coolers with Coke, water, Gatorade, and other mini soft drinks to try or take with you for the day. I was very happy about all of it. The name of the hotel is NaNa Vida CDMX.

I really liked the surrounding Mexico City area. We were able to walk everywhere that we wanted to go, and the only time that we had to take a taxi was to and from the airport. The part of town (Oaxaca City) was like old Mexico City. There were lots of cool stores, old architecture, and plenty of different shops and stores to walk around to. We had fun at local cafes and restaurants, shops, and overall just exploring to see what was there. We also went and had some yummy Mexican food, like tacos and burritos, but also churros! While we were eating there was a Mariachi band that came to play for us on the patio! It was really neat, and I really do like that style of music.

To see all of the different parts of Mexico City, we took a bike tour. I loved it. I had a wonderful time. I love biking to begin with, and it was so fun to bike along to streets of Mexico. We got an English tour from Pedalea Mexico, and the main feature was Frida Kahlo and her life in Mexico. We went to her house which is now a museum, and I loved it because I found that I can really relate to Frida. I liked seeing her paintings, her art process, how she lived, and what she had to go through. It was like getting a glimpse into her mind.

For those of you who don’t know much about Frida, she got polio when she was only six, causing her legs to be different lengths, with her right legs shorter than her left leg. We were able to see her built up shoes along with several other of her outfits at her house. Her built up shoes were very neat, and I’d say the shoes steadied her right leg about 2 or 3 inches. She had to spend several months in bed when she was little, and then when she was 18 she was in an unfortunate bus accident and that caused damage to her spine. Along with her special shoes, she also wore special corsets because of her damaged spine, and she also had to stay in bed again a lot. In bed with nothing to do all day, her mom built her a special easel so that she could paint laying down. We got to see that too in her room. Frida loved mirrors as well, so that’s why she has a lot of self-portraits. There’s a mirror right on the roof of the canopy in her bed, and she would look into that and paint herself. We also saw all of her paints, and other art supplies. She also really liked communism. I would definitely recommend going there and seeing Frida’s house, because it is a very cool historical experience.

That’s really all that we did in Mexico, I had a very fun time, and I learned a lot about Frida Kahlo and got to explore the lovely Mexico City. I would definitely recommend checking out this part of town, the older side of Mexico City. It’s very beautiful and charming. We also flew back out on Aeromexico, which is like the best airline. I’m not even joking, that little flight from Mexico to Orlando? There was free wifi for being able to message people, and they actually gave us snacks. Cookies, soda, and free wifi on a 2 hours flight? Yes please. And yeah, I said that we went from Mexico to Orlando. Just a quick stop so that we could get our snacks. I needed Crumbl Cookies and Chick-Fil-A, and White Castle Burgers. You know, the good stuff. I also like Gideon’s cookies. They are so good, but VERY chocolatey. Many many chocolate chips. It’s like they accidentally got some cookie dough in a bowl of chocolate chips. But it’s still very yummy. We also would’ve went to Buck-EE’s, but the Florida one is too far from Orlando. We just needed a vacation after our vacation, you know? 😉

See you next time 😀

P.S. Guess who figured out how to change fonts! 😀
