This book is an interesting one to write a review on, because it’s not exactly a book that I’m fond of, but I did think is was very well written. Jesse is a pretty good character, she’s a former runner, a superstar-and she was even thinking of trying out for the Olympics. But when her dad died so did her dreams. Jesse is a girl who’s grieving but is trying to fill the hole in her heart with a boyfriend, but all she’s getting is short flings with guys that she barely likes. She’s a pretty decent character to drive this story, and I like reading about her. To cope with the loss of her dad, she goes to be a councillor at camp, and there she meets many more guys. I think I’ve figured it out, I like stories where the romance isn’t the main focus of the story, or if there’s at least a decent plot behind the whole thing, not just “Wow I think I like you” and “Oh cool, I like you too”. But this wasn’t bad, I mean this had a decent plot behind things. It was just a little predictable. I would’ve appreciated a plot twist, and I mean we kind of did get one, it just didn’t hold any consequences afterwards. Maybe I wanted more drama, but I was still fine with what we got.

Kirk, the love interest, was also a good character. BUT, and there’s a huge BUT, Kirk is my dad’s name, so when Jesse was describing his abs or whatever, I kept picturing my dad, after reading the word “Kirk” all my life and putting my dad’s face to that name. So… uhm. My own brain sort of messed this up for me, but then it turns out Kirk’s parents are Star Trek fans, and they named him after captain Kirk, which is funny to me.

Sadly, again, I did not agree with the themes in this book, like the main character losing her virginity at the whopping uNmArRiEd age of sEvEnTeEn. Yay. If I had known this book would be like THAT I wouldn’t have ordered it. *ahem* apart from that, it was a book that deserves 3 stars for the quality of writing and the characters.

I would recommend this book to those of you who like to read those trendy romance books on BookTok <3
