High Tea in Vancity

Vancouver is one of the largest cities in Canada. The last time we were there was two years ago and the traffic was super bad, but due to the pandemic most people were at home so there’s no traffic at all and it’s not hard to find a parking spot!
There was a parade going on when we passed by on George Street in West Vancouver. It was an anti-mask parade. Whatever they say, they have their freedom of speech. But as for me and my parents, we are going to wear our masks to protect ourselves and others

Back to topic πŸ™‚

My dad loves to take my mom and I for high tea, and I’ve been to a few afternoon tea in Fairmont Hotels. Dad has some British roots in him that’s why he loves fancy tea also, but he loves coffee more! So he booked an afternoon tea at TWG Tea (The Wellness Group). It is a luxurious tea company from Singapore established in 2007. TWG Tea salons and boutiques are in eighteen countries worldwide. Right now TWG Tea in Vancouver is the only one in North America. This is our first time so we don’t know what to expect.

The Boutique is so colorful and beautiful inside.

When we arrived there’s only one other family inside the restaurant having an afternoon tea. Everybody was wearing a mask, and social distancing was being observed so we were comfortable to be there.
We were handed some menus, and there were two set menus to choose from, Winter Tea Time and Signature Tea Time. My Dad and I ordered the Signature Tea, and mom ordered the Winter Tea. For my tea, the very knowledgeable staff recommended me a chocolate tea. It was good, but I always add some sugar. My mom ordered a Sencha tea. It’s a light flavoured green tea, and my dad had a caramel flavoured black tea. We all liked our tea, it was really good! TWG Tea has more than 800 different kinds of tea sourced from different parts of the world!

I chose Signature Tea Time because it has Wagyu beef slider, egg sandwich, cucumber sandwich, and chicken scone. (What is a chicken scone?). For sweets it has tart, mango pudding, and TWG Tea macaroon. The menu actually had it in fancy names I just could not pronounce it all! For my mom, she chose the other menu because it has a duck slider, lobster and prawn sandwich, seafood croquette, and cucumber sandwich. For sweets she got a white chocolate, cream puff, truffles, and TWG Tea macaron also. The food is also infused with different teas!

Have you heard the word foie gras? It’s actually my first time to hear about it. Foie Gras is a specialty food product made of duck or goose liver. Both menu had foie gras. My dad and I didn’t eat ours, but my mom tried hers. She said, β€œI’m glad I tried it, but I won’t have it again.” That says something. The French and some people like it though, but not for me. I like most of the food on my three-tiered tray. My mom ate the ones that I don’t want to eat. I included lots of pictures here.

As you can see on the pictures above, the top tier are the deserts, and they are all delicious! The green burger was my mom’s duck slider, prawn sandwich, and seafood croquette. The egg sandwich was so cute because it had a fried egg on top. I thinks it’s a quail egg. The picture below is the mango tart with sprinkles and gold leaf. I have eaten gold, and it’s scrumptious! It feels like eating a very thin tin foil! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

On the second tier is the Wagyu burger, chicken scone so it’s actually a chicken salad in a little cone, and the foie gras medallion with gold leaf. Of course my mom would not leave the boutique without buying tea! My dad loves to buy stuff for my mom, he’s very thoughtful! What I love about the menu was it had a macarons, I love macarons so much!

And that was my afternoon tea experience at TWG Tea. It was really, really good.

Are you a tea lover? Have you been to an afternoon tea?

  1. You’re in MY city!!! I’ve never been to the Tea place you visited, but that’s because I don’t like tea at all. I’m really into coffee. Still, just for the experience, I once had a very expensive high tea at the old hotel in Victoria and remember it well.
You certainly are having some wonderful experiences. Enjoy but be careful.

    1. My dad loves coffee also! Is it at The Empress Hotel? I had an afternoon tea at The Empress before. When we visit Victoria next year, we plan to have a tea at Butchart Garden!

      1. I think I’ve been to Butchart Garden. I was pretty young. All I remember is the name, taking a ferry, and a lightning storm in the distance. Weird flashback!!

  2. I enjoyed reading this a lot. Sounds like you had a great time. Those teas would make perfect Christmas presents, unfortunately I am not in Canada πŸ™

  3. Seems awesome 😻😻😻😻😻i love teaaaaaa and chocolate soooo that seems wonderfullllll
    You look beautiful, Ariela!

  4. That sounds like a lovely place! Having grown up in England and trained as a chef, that looks really appealing. I know the first time trying foie gras. I first tried it in cooking school, and because I learned the best things to pair it with, I really loved it (maybe because I also have France in my personal and family history). It is an acquired taste

    1. Awesome! I love to watch cooking and baking shows, but I’m not there yet to be one! Do you plan to open up a restaurant someday?

  5. I looove that pic of you sipping tea!!

Note: “Macaroon”, with 2 O’s, usually (but not always) refers to the coconut cookie. “Macaron”, 1 O, is always the treat that you like. Beware of being served the wrong one!!

I tried to go to a High Tea restaurant in Hollywood but it had stopped seating just 5min before we got there. Drats!!

2nd note: Not all gold leaf is edible. If you want to use it, make sure it says it’s edible!!

  6. This looks delicious! What a special treat. I have been to quite a few afternoon teas over the years and I love it! I enjoy the tea but I especially enjoy the food.

  7. That looks like a fantastic tea. We love Vancouver and Victoria, BC. If you ever make it to Victoria, the high tea at the Fairmont Empress is not to be missed. Thanks for sharing and happy holidays! -Andrea

    1. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I had afternoon tea at The Empress two year ago. It was lovely! Happy Holidays!

  8. I love drinking tea and I have had afternoon tea at parties and such, but never at a restaurant! I would love to go to a place like this! I would have chosen the Signature Tea as well!! πŸ˜€ And.. oohh I bet it was hard to choose which tea to drink! They all sound so tasty each in their own way!
    Thx for sharing this!

  9. This sounds like so much fun! I’ve always wanted to try high tea. For now I’ll settle for my usual mint tea in the morning πŸ™‚

    You’re beautiful! Stay safe ☺️

  10. Lovely post reminding me how much i love tea. There’s always a reason to have a lovely cup of tea. Needless to say that I do enjoy high tea that’s always served with so many delicious foods and it’s a good thing that I only indulge occasionally! I love drinking Rooibos Tea (red bush) or Honey bush tea, indigenous to South Africa. I can drink as much as I love and still be able to sleep because it’s also caffeine free.
