Landing on top of the Mountain

One of My dad’s top five things to do in British Columbia was to take a helicopter tour! He called around and he found a company in Kelowna! And once again, it was a LONG drive, I’m getting used to them… We were taking the tour with Valhalla Helicopters. To be honest, the name kinda worried me at first, because “Valhalla” is the Norse version of heaven. I was thinking, “Either it’s DANGEROUS and they call the place Valhalla because you go to heaven when you die, or the ride is so nice it’s like heaven? Hopefully the last one…”

Our guide gave us some safety instructions, and then we were off! I’ll put a video all the way down that you can watch!

Helicopters are LOUD! Good thing I had a radio headset so I wouldn’t go deaf and it was also the way to communicate with our pilot. Once we took off, we went to see the Okanagan Lake and the Trestles in Kelowna! If you have no idea what the trestles are, check out my post below!

My dad had an idea in his head that he wanted to land on top of the mountain! This company had never done it before in the winter time! So they had to call Transport Canada, and get permission to land. My dad had to pay extra because it costs a bit more to shut down the helicopter then power it up again. We landed on Mount Hayman, with an elevation of 4,500 ft.

So, I got to land on top of a mountain! On… pretty much my first time in a helicopter! The reason I say, “pretty much” is because I rode in a helicopter when I was a year old, and I don’t remember anything except the pictures my mom had, from when we were in Orlando. But back to Kelowna, and when we landed, the snow came up to the belly of the helicopter! We had to carefully dock down to get out of the helicopter to make sure not to hit the propeller. I seriously needed some snowshoes! My parents even fell down the snow was so deep! But not ME, I did not fall! I had fun stomping the thick snow on the mountain peak, the snow was SO deep! Woo hoo! *victory dances* anyway, I enjoyed being on the top, because

1. It was surprising NOT THAT COLD for being on the top of a mountain

2. The SNOW! The ever so SPARKLING FLUFFY SNOW!

3. The view of Okanagan Lake!

4. And the um… the air…? The cool crisp air that only comes on a cold day?

I think that’s all for this post everyone! I hope you enjoyed this post! Have a nice day everyone! 🤍

  1. Looks so beautiful! I am with you about the apprehension before doing it though. I’m afraid of heights. I’m glad you at least had doors on the helicopter

    1. Ooh, a helicopter WITHOUT doors?! Nuh-uh, NO! That would be cold! Thank you so much for reading!
