Northwest Coast Art

It’s been more than two months since my family and I arrived in the west coast of Canada, and it’s good because I’ve seen things I don’t normally see in the east coast where I live. Northwest Coast Art is the term commonly applied to a style of art created primarily by artists from Tlingit, Haida, Heiltsuk, Nuxalk, Tsimshian, Kwakwaka’wakw, Nuu-chah-nulth and other First Nations and Native American tribes of the Northwest Coast of North America. I got this information from Wikipedia.

Here are two examples printed on cards that I sent to my grandfather and my Uncle Rob as a Christmas card. I think they are very pretty and very cool!

I tried to draw a butterfly… What do you think?

(Yes yes, I know it’s a bit off!)

Here are some of more Northwest Coast Art

Love how going to a new place introduces you to new experiences like artwork! πŸ™‚

  2. I love all the native motifs, we always visit their shops when we have a chance.
Your butterfly is very nice, maybe a touch of red might brighten it upπŸ™‚

  3. That’s really beautiful! I got a cheese knife with Northwest Coast Art. It was done by the artist who designed the Olympic medals for Vancouver in 2010

  4. Ariela, thank you for sharing this beautiful art. I am impressed that you are an active participant in the art you viewed. I like your rendering of a butterfly. It is not as fierce as the eagles and the fish, but I think the style is the same. Have a great week! <3

    1. Thank you so much! I really appreciate you reading you reading my blog time and time again ! Thank you, and I’m glad you like them!🀍🀍🀍

  5. Having grown up in the Pacific Northwest, I have always loved the art of the local Native Americans. I remember back in elementary school, we would often try our hands at creating similar pieces. Your butterfly reminded me of those projects. Thanks for the reminder. -Andrea
