Snowboarding for the ✨First✨ Time

Have you ever skied or snowboarded before? Winter activities for me are a bit of a new experience because as you probably know, I spend my winters in Florida. Maybe some of you don’t know what Florida looks like? Well, it’s flat and the average temperature in Orlando,FL in February is 23C/74F. No skiing in Florida for sure! WAY to hot! Two weeks ago, I went snowboarding for the first time. My mom booked me a snowboarding lesson at Apex Mountain Resort.

I was excited and I couldn’t wait for it to start because it was a LONG drive, an hour and fifteen minutes drive to be exact. If you’ve ever been to a ski resort that is on the top of a mountain you know that it’s a LONG drive! Anyway, we got there finally, and it was so pretty! I really like the prettiness (is that a word?) of ski resorts when everything is covered in a thick layer of snow. Of course… that DOES mean that everything is COLD, but it’s still very pretty!πŸ€ͺ

Once parked, me and my mom headed to the ski rental place. My dad, a former ski instructor, was in the car talking on the phone so me and my mom went ahead! I signed-in and the staff helped me find a size of the boots I needed. I know which are comfier, snowboarding boots! Because I was mistakenly trying on a pair of ski boots because the staff thought I was there for a ski lesson! Then I told him I was snowboarding and he got me some snowboarding boots! Once I got the correct boots, I headed outside to meet my instructor, and he was there waiting for me at a sign that said, β€œThe Meeting Place”

My parents told me that they would go and grab something to eat while I’m taking my lesson, and they would come back once my lesson was over so they left, and I was off learning how to snowboard! The first thing I learned was how to take on and off the bindings, (those straps that keep your feet in place) then I learned how to walk with the board, kind of just push it like a skateboard. If not, I’d be walkin’ like the toy soldiers in Toy Story, ya know?

Then I moved on the stuff like going downtown the hill but not sideways, kind of sliding forwards. It was a bit tricky because I had to keep my balance and I kept falling over backwards! 😜 In the end I think I did okay… after that I tried to go down the hill sideways… I crashed! But that was the FUN part! I crashed because I was going a little too fast, and I couldn’t really stop yet… so I crashed! And it was fun! And that’s pretty much it! My instructor said I need one or two more lessons and I should be good to go by myself. My mom got my epic crash on video! You can watch it on my Instagram!

We also went tubing at Apex Mountain Resort three weeks ago! It was extra cold because it’s at night! BRRR! Like my dad, I love when the cold air blows all around my face! My parents and I went in two tubes, one double, and one single! We even spun around once and went most of the way backwards! If YOU have ever been tubing, you probably know how much fun it is! You can watch my crazy video here!

And that’s it everybody! Hope you enjoyed this post! Here’s the link for Apex Mountain Resort, you can check out the winter activities they offer including accommodations and restaurants!

  1. Oooo that looks like so much fun! Cold, but fun! I have not been skiing, snowboarding, or tubing. But now I want to!πŸ˜‚

  2. That’s a great photo of Ariela on the mountain with her snow board. Perfect day too and not too many people.

  3. Haha, I’m reading this post on top of a mountain because I’m skiing right now! That’s so funny!πŸ˜‚I’m taking a little break and thought I’d read some blogs.πŸ˜€

    1. WHAT😱 that’s funny, you’re on the top of a mountain reading a skiing postπŸ˜‚ thanks for reading!

  4. I’m envious!! My knees went bad before I got a chance to try snowboarding. I’ve skied and done a variety of snow sledding… all tons of fun!

  5. Another great outing I bet you know what the term wind chill means after all of that,

I have only tubed in warm water… you sure looked like you were moving fast. Lots of fun

  6. That looks super fun!
I love skiing! When I lived in Canada we cross-country skied all the time! Ooh, tubing looks fun! I’ve never tried it!

    1. Tubing you MUST DO! OOoOooh that’s so cool that you’ve cross country skied! Thanks for reading, and have a great rest of your day, Reese!

    1. Aww thank you!🀍 It means a lot that you enjoy my craziness! 🀣😜 I hope you get a chance to snowboard! Have a nice dayyy!

  7. Oh you’re so lucky! I’ve been snowboarding for a while now, but I’m not very good and haven’t gone in a long time. I hope that you enjoyed snowboarding, it’s quite fun! Haha, glad you chose the snowboard, it’s definitely harder to do things like getting on and off lifts and moving on flat ground but it’s so fun! Plus, yep, the snowboard boots are a LOT more comfy. It’s so funny because the rest of my family skis so we’ll all be walking in our boots and I’ll just be walking along while they trudge around.

    1. Hehe, yea! Snowboarding boots are nicer! I’m sure you’re better than me at snowboarding though, I’ve been doing it for two days!

    1. Awesome! I need more practice. I keep on falling, and my body was sore! LOL Thanks so much for stopping by!

  8. Took me a while to figure out where you were. We’ve done some great wine exploring in Okanogan though. We aren’t skiers or snowboarders but we love to ski lodge. Our boys love snowboarding but usually go to Virginia or North Carolina. Be careful though, the ski life can be an addiction. Above all else – have fun…
