The Book Shop

Happy December! Can you believe Christmas is right around the corner?

Raise your hand if you like to read? How about buying second hand books? Well, this post will make you wish that you could press the link to the website of this book shop, and you would magically be transported to it. This place is a book lover’s dream! It’s a must visit if you ever find yourself in Penticton. This book shop is located in downtown main street. Penticton is one of the large city in Okanagan Valley. It has everything you’ll need, and it has a beautiful beach too! We could sooo live here if we want to!

This place has really any book you could dream of. If you can’t find what your looking for here, you can’t find it anywhere else. It’s GLORIOUS! The Book Shop was opened in 1974 by Bruce Stevenson, in the city of Penticton. The General Store is 5,000 square feet, and Bruce said, β€œa secondhand book store should be every thing to everybody, people must be enticed to return again, and again, they won’t come back if they feel they’ve seen it all in ten minutes.” I think this is quite accurate and I love being there. So many books that I’ve never seen before.

It really doesn’t matter if the books are used or not because as long as it is in good condition and I can still read it, I’m fine with it!

Those are my β€œtreasures” that I found in the book shop. As you can see, I got Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, The Crimes of Grindelwald, and Goddess Girls, Medusa the Mean. There are LOADS of others, and I would definitely buy all my favourite books from here. Most of the books are half price, and I only had twenty dollars from my Uncle Rob to buy some books. But because my mom loves me, and she knows I LOVE reading so much, she gave me the rest of the money I needed to buy the books. I came out of that store very happy.

I want to share with you guys some of the book series I love to read: Dear Canada, Dear America, Harry Potter, Keeper of the Lost Cities, Fantastic Beasts, The Chronicles of Narnia, Dork Diaries, Goddess Girls, Thunder Girls, Percy Jackson, The Hunger Games, and How to Train Your Dragon.

Do you like buying second hand books? Have you read the series Goddess Girls? Do you like Harry Potter?

  1. I love buying second hand ANYTHING! But especially books.

Oooooo you’ve read The Chronicles of Narnia??? I LOVE that series!!!! I have the entire set!!! They’re all sooooo good!!!

I haven’t been to a book store in a while, the last time I went was in early summer I think, we have a bookshop near our house, and it’s sort of like that, but much smaller.

I honestly prefer libraries, because you can get as many books as you want, and not have to pay! I absolutely love libraries now that I think about it. πŸ€”

Anywho, sorry for the long comment, I just flippin’ love reading.

    Happy Tuesday!🀍

    1. The Dear Canada series is historical fiction, and it’s about girls that are about 9-14 that keep diaries of their life. But they aren’t real though, but what they go though and the setting of their time period is true! It’s a great series, and I have LOTS of those books!

      1. Cool! Thanks for the recommendations in your post! I have missed my local bookstore back in California and I love hearing about other small, local bookstores! 😊

  2. Ariela, I used to collect secondhand paperback books that cost 25 cents or 50 cents, mostly classics, and I had a bookcase full of them. One day my daughter, who was about your age at the time, was bored and couldn’t find anything to do. I went over to the bookcase and started suggesting, “Why don’t you read this book?” Every time I asked, her answer was that she had already read the book. It turned out that she had read every one of the books! I hadn’t realized that she had read any of them! It made me so happy! πŸ™‚

That is a fantastic-looking bookstore. Then, of course, there is the beach! Both are things to recommend it a place as a good place to live! πŸ™‚ <3 All the best!

    1. I bet you have a great collection of books. Good for your daughter that she loves reading! Thanks for reading πŸ™‚

  3. I love to read!!! Old books are the greatest. Right now I get mine at one of those wonderful little free street libraries in my neighbourhood. I give my used books and exchange them for others I’m interested in. Yeah!

  4. Lovely photos, of a favorite place for me to find peace. I love secondhand book stores, but the one that was in my city closed due to the pandemic, due to monetary losses. It was sad to see it leave the community.

  7. God, this book shop is lovely. You are write, I wish I can just teleport there. Your choices are nice, especially the covers. I think secondhand bookshops are cool, seeing all these books that have had previous lives, years of existence. There is a magic about it that is undeniable.
