The Largest Shopping Mall in North America

Hello, everyone, this is going to be about the next part of the Coast To Coast Canada Adventure! Click here for the first part of the trip titled No Fuel?!. After a close call from almost sleeping on the side of the road in freezing temperatures. We stayed in Edmonton, Alberta for four days to relax after a looong drive.

Do you like strolling or window shopping at the mall? My favorite mall is West Edmonton Mall, or WEM for short. It is the largest mall in North America, this place is awesome, and I will tell you why in a minute. I got to stay at a hotel called the Fantasyland Hotel. They have themed rooms, but not just any themed rooms. They have rooms like the space room, the truck room, the Roman room, the Polynesian room, the safari room, and more! This was my second time to stay in this hotel. I was really sad when the Space Room was fully booked last year so we stayed at the Polynesian Room instead. It was pretty good. I would recommend staying here if you ever go to Edmonton, Alberta. We stayed here for four days without going out! The temperature inside the mall is around 24C (75F), and the temperature in Edmonton that time was -10C (14F).

In case you’re wondering, The Fantasyland Hotel is connected to WEM so it’s really convenient when you stay. So, we checked into our room, and we were wowed! Well, I was wowed, I don’t know about my parents, because I can’t read their minds! (In other words for Keeper Of The Lost Cities fans, I’m not a Telepath!) But it WAS really cool, and my parents did like it. (I asked). There was galaxy wallpaper, galaxy carpets, two MASSIVE TVs with colour changing lights on the sides, a light up jacuzzi, a few mirrors on the wall, and space pod beds. I have a video attached here!

At the mall, there are lots of things to do. There is an indoor water park, an amusement park, drive-karting, ice-skating rink, mini-golf, bowling, mirror labyrinth, and underground aquarium. Plus there are LOADS of shops (you know, ’cause it’s a mall), and there are also two food courts, restaurants, and an Asian grocery store. There is also a LEGO store that’s going to be open soon. I wish it was already open, but that has to wait until I visit again. On the first day I we arrived I wanted to go to the Galaxyland. If you happened to read the 2020 GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS to the roller coaster pages, you will find the Mindbender is the world’s largest indoor roller coaster. Galaxyland is in the mall, and sadly I haven’t been on it.

You: “But I thought she liked roller coasters!”

Me: “I do, but the last time we were here, I actually wasn’t tall enough to ride! I was so sad because it looked reeeeeeeally fun! And the worst part was, I had to sit and WATCH MY DAD GO ON IT. This time when we went, I was sure that I was tall enough to ride. But I never found out because the ride WASN’T OPEN DUE TO COVID-19! This time I was even more sad!

And that’s the story of how I didn’t get to go on the Mindbender. I went skating with my dad instead, but I need more practice to be better. Scratch that, a LOT better! My dad and I thought about trying the go-karts. They are electric go-karts to be exact, but it was seven minutes of racing for thirty dollars per person! Suuuuch a rip off!!!

The water park, called World Waterpark is the best water park I’ve ever been to. And that says a lot because I’ve been to lots of water parks! The reason why it’s so great because there are lots of really fun slides to go on, hot tubs with plenty of room for a lot of people, MONSTER waves at the wave pool, aaaaaaaand it includes unlimited drinks form those fancy Coke-A-Cola machines! I’ll bet I just sold ya with that one!

Back to our AWESOME room at the Fantasyland Hotel, We stayed two nights in the space room, and that’s exactly the number of nights we were supposed to stay, but, we wanted to stay one more night. So that meant that we had to re-book the space room for another night. But the space room was booked by someone else for that night which meant that we couldn’t stay in the space room that night.

You can watch the video of me giving you a virtual tour of the space room. As you can see, it is awesommmmme! I’m really happy that we got a chance to stay here, because that was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Anyway, back to the changing of the room. Since we couldn’t stay at the space room for another night, my dad picked the truck room instead.

So, when I say “truck room” I mean there are traffic lights on the wall, a yellow pickup truck on the left side of the room with a bed in the back, fire truck like bunk beds, and carpets with road signs and traffic lights printed on it. Check the video below! I’m sure that all the rooms are super cool just like the tuck room and space room!

We also went shopping ‘cause at the mall back home in New Brunswick don’t have nearly as many stores. We wandered into a bake shop and I got French macaroons! Those are a real treat because they are so yummy! I think I should find out how to make them so I won’t have to keep buying!

I think that wraps it up for this post, and overall I think WEM is a really great place that is definitely worth visiting. For complete information about West Edmonton Mall, here’s the link http://wem.ca. See you guys next time and don’t forget to donate to the Food Bank! It really doesn’t matter how much you give, you could give five dollars, or fifty dollars.

Oh, and some of you may be wondering when I’m gonna post those drawings that you requested at the end of my LEGO post. Well, I’m working on them. I would’ve finished them a loooong time ago but with all this traveling, it’s a little hard to find the time. Plus I need internet to find a picture that I’ll need to draw the scene I’m drawing. And most of the time that I have internet I’m working on my blog. So, yea, that post is coming up soon!

  1. We used to have a much smaller themed hotel in Northern California, The Madonna Inn. I have no idea whether it’s still in business… the last time I saw, it was not being cared for. The Cave Room was always booked 2yrs in advance. We stayed in the Watermill room… the wall behind the beds was a gigantic watermill that powered lots of little Swiss doll scenes. We heard a scream in the hallway… it was a newlywed couple and the woman refusing to stay in The Buffalo Room, which was decorated with a multitude of taxidermy buffalo heads.

Your rooms were 1,000x better!! Esp the Galaxy Room. I’ll have to show that to a friend of mine who’s nuts for the movie BladeRunner.

I don’t like malls but that one sounds incredible!! I’m so bummed you still didn’t get to ride the coaster!!

Yay for seeing family!! It sounds like you’re having a pretty good time!

    1. Yes, we really enjoyed ourselves! The Madonna Inn you stayed at sounds… interesting, and I think I see why the lady screamed when she saw the Buffalo room! Lol!

      1. The Madonna Inn has/had an ornate restaurant. The women’s room was fancy French decor. The men’s room was cave themed… lots of women went in to see it but my parents never allowed me. I recall hearing that the urinals and sinks were motion-activated waterfall walls.

  2. I think I saw you in the lower left corner of the pool waiving.. at your Dad ?

That Mall is huge and kind of crazy neat. Seems like a good place to stay after a very long drive.Thank you for sharing.
