Big White & Short Ribs

Hi everyone! I hope you are feeling amazing today, extra fabulous. Hehe, anyway living in British Columbia for four months now has been amazing. I’ve been posting my journeys and my adventures since November of 2020. My family and I have been doing winter activities and visiting different ski hills. The picture below was taken at Revelstoke Mountain Resort. It’s the same place where we took dog sledding tour. This ski resort has a double black diamond trail called, β€œKill the Banker”. It means you have to be a really experienced skier to go down this trail. (My dad happens to be one of those experienced skiers, he never stops talking about it! Haha!) And you can click here to read about my dog sledding experience in Revelstoke!

Being home schooled has been a blessing because our time is very flexible. We usually explore places during the week when it’s not busy especially in the restaurant!

Last month we visited Big White Ski Resort. It’s a very popular ski hill so we decided to check it out. If your not from British Columbia, Canada; you have to fly in to Kelowna Airport then it’s an hour drive from there. Right now is probably NOT the best though… but when travel is back to normal, here is where you MUST visit if you like snow! We didn’t plan to ski at Big White because my dad’s knee was still sore. He twisted his knee when he put his leg out to avoid slipping when we went snowmobiling for a second time last month.

We parked our car, and we took a yellow gondola ride to get to the ski village. It’s free to ride the gondola. There are many restaurants and shops at the Village. There’s also a lot of hotels, condos, cabins, and other accommodations to choose from if you plan to stay short term or long term. It was a cold day, but we’re glad because it was a sunny day! As you can see on the pictures, even the trees are white, they are covered in snow. Maybe that’s why this place is called Big White. I added the link to Big White’s website at the end of this post. When we got to the Village my dad picked to eat at Black Diamond Restaurant. My dad ordered Yorkshire beef dip and side salad. My mom ordered a Reuben sandwich with side salad, and what do you think I ordered?

I had a Reuben sandwich with fries! I’m surprised because I actually liked it! It had smoked brisket, sauerkraut, and fancy mustard served on toasted rye bread. It’s delicious!!! We ordered one more thing to share. It is a deep fried short ribs with sriracha mayo sauce. And I tell you, it is very, very good! It was a great lunch! We enjoyed our meal and the restaurant was warm and cozy.

After lunch we walked around the village and bought some souvenirs at the store. My parents bought me a “toque,” or a beanie, or just a winter hat.

Big White is not just for winter activities. In the summer time, it is great for biking. Click Big White Ski Resort to learn more events and activities you can do at Big White Ski Resort.
