I got coal!

There’s a saying that when you’re bad all year Santa’ll give you coal in your stocking instead of gifts. My Uncle Rob sent me a few Christmas gifts in the mail, but I just received it last week. You should’ve seen my face when I opened up that package…

He sent me a lump of coal! Like the real coal that people used in the fireplace or furnace back in the day. It was very funny. I laughed so hard when I saw the coal… but it wasn’t the only thing I got for Christmas though. My Uncle Rob also gave me $20 and some 3D book marks that seem to “move” when you turn them.

But he sent me another gift.

Hehehe! He sent me a blanket with my picture on it! It’s HUGE! It’s like the BEST blanket EVER! 🤣🤪I love it very much and it’s nice and light so I can take it with me on my travels. That’s all for this post everybody!🤍

Did you receive a silly Christmas gift from someone?

  1. Yes people did use coal in the fireplace ‘back in they day’. No central heating or anything like that when I was a boy. In the UK back then coal fires were still pretty much the norm for people who couldn’t afford the luxury of central heating. We had a coal ‘bunker’ in the yard and had regular coal deliveries. I remember the men coming in and emptying sacks of coal into the bunker. I think the sacks weighed one hundredweight, written as 1 cwt – an old imperial measurement of 112 pounds, equal to 50kg. If you know any really old people like me then they would probably remember the old imperial measurements as I believe they were still being used in Canada pre-1970. I still remember the very distinct smell of fresh wet coal. I don’t think the piece you were given by your uncle Rob would have much of a smell to it as I’m sure it would have been thoroughly washed before he sent it.

There ya go, an ancient history lesson just for you!

  2. I remember fake coal that was black licorice. I haven’t seen that in years!!

A neighbor gave me a “Crazy Cat Lady” mug, cat ornament, and cat socks!!
