Quebec City 🏙

Hello, hello! Today’s post is about another one of my travel adventures! We kind of are on a constant road trip in Canada because my parents are not yet comfortable traveling internationally. Quebec City is the capital of the province of Quebec. I’ve been to Quebec City before when I was a toddler, and we stayed at the iconic hotel Fairmont Chateau Frontenac. Quebec City is literally just like any city in France because it was settled by France in 1535.

Quebec City was founded on July 3rd 1608, by Samuel de Champlain. He was a French explorer that explored many different parts of Canada. Quebec is a fortified city, you can see the pictures below. Quebec City was the headquarters for the Frenchman, and the wall was built in 1690 to defend them against the enemies during colonial wars for control of the Americas.

One famous battle happened on September 13, 1759, the area was the scene of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham, part of the French and Indian War, which was part of the Seven Years’ War.

The British soldiers climbed the steep cliff under the city in darkness, surprising and defeating the French, through a single deadly volley of musket fire, the battle was over within thirty minutes. The battle left control of Quebec City to the British, eventually allowing them to take control of Canada the following year. Even a fortified city has it weakness. Quebec City did not loose it’s French charm even it was under British control, and that is a good thing because Quebec City is a piece of France in Canada. The battlefield is now a park for outdoor activities and concerts.

Another popular landmark in Quebec City is the Chateau Frontenac Hotel. It look like a castle, doesn’t it? If you don’t mind paying the big dollar, it’s definitely a great place to stay that overlooks the St. Lawrence River. They also serve afternoon tea which is my favourite thing to do. If you have time to learn more history about Quebec City, you can visit the Saint-Louis Forts and Châteaux National Historic Site. It was the official residence and seat of power of the governors between 1620 and 1834. Saint-Louis Forts is just across the Frontenac Hotel. Click here to learn more about it.

Want to hear a spooky story? This story takes place in one of the Fairmont Hotel, but not the one in Quebec. This takes place in Fairmont Banff Springs, high up in the snowy mountains 🏔 So, according to the story a family was killed in room 873. After that when other guests stayed in room 873, they would hear creepy noises, and the lights would flicker off. When the lights turned back on again… bloody handprints were on the wall. Then the handprints would disappear before anyone else could check them out. Well, if it’s just a story then why is room 873 sealed off where you can’t go in it anymore? A patch of drywall has been added and it’s also been wallpapered so that it matches the hallway like there was never a room there in the first place. SPOOKY. 👻

There’s also a funicular beside the Saint-Louis Fort that could take you to the street down below for more boutique shops, restaurants, and other historic places. There’s so many things to do and things to see in Quebec City. Click here for a complete list. You can take sight-seeing bus tour or a horse drawn carriage to tour around the city. My parents and I just walked because it’s a walkable city.

We also came across this summery beach area in the middle of the city. It is a fun place where you could sit and relax, enjoy all the bright and fun colors, and play in the sand. I have no idea WHY there was a man made beach thing smack dab in the middle of the city, but it was nice. Oh, and I also got macarons because my dad loves French pastries, and if he gets something to eat, then I get something too 😋 I got vanilla and creme brûlée Macarons, and I didn’t even know creme brûlée was a flavour. Hehe, they were super yummy and sweet. I loooooove it so much! I think I need to learn how to make them.

That pretty much wraps up this post, I hope you enjoyed it, and I’ll see you guys next time, byeeeeeeeeee!

Have you even been to a French city? (With an awesome French vibe, of course)

  1. Ariela, I have been to Quebec City before as well. It is like Little Europe in Canada. For more breathtaking, European-like views, I would recommend Banff, Alberta for a future trip.

  2. I have never been to france. I actually have never been out of America.
    That is a creepy story.
I really want to make macaroons!
Thanks for putting in the history parts of this post. I really liked that.

  3. I haven’t been to Quebec but really want to see a Cirque du Soliel show at their headquarters someday.

Thanks for sharing the pics and spooky story!
