The World Famous Cabot Trail

Have you heard about the term “forest bathing”? No, you don’t take a bath in the forest, in simpler terms, “forest bathing” was coined in Japan, where nature therapy has ancient roots. The idea of “park prescriptions” in urban areas first started in Asia and caught on worldwide. But here in Canada it’s easy to immerse yourself into nature because Canada has 347 million hectares of forest. I’m feeling very blessed about this.

My family’s road trip continues in this post, and we went hiking. Being outdoors and enjoying nature has a truly calming a effect. Summer is in full blown here in Canada and Canadians are taking advantage of the beautiful weather before cold weather creeps in. AND, after ten years we re-visited the world famous Cabot Trail in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. It was BEAUTIFUL 😍 It’s a super twisty turny road on the side of the mountains.

It was an eight hour drive from our house to get to the resort my dad booked. It’s called Keltic Lodge Resort and Spa. It’s located in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, and it’s on a little peninsula! I have pictures below ⬇️ The entire peninsula is all of the Keltic Lodge, and the views are absolutely stunning! The weather was beautiful afternoon when we got there, and my dad and I decided to jump in the pool, but the water was so cold! 😂🥶 We didn’t last very long. There’s a golf course at the resort, but my parents are not exactly golfers. But we DID consider renting a golf cart to drive around and watch the sunrise in the evening. It didn’t happened because it poured rain the next day.

But anyway, my dad choose this hotel because of the location and the gastronomic food. (gastronomic means really really good food!) I have pictures below. My dad has even become a crème brûlée connoisseur from trying all the crème brûlées at these gastronomic restaurants all across Canada 😜

After a quick swim, we drove to one of the trails, the Skyline Trail. The view was breathtaking. The was setting when we arrived, and I’m sure it would be amazing to watch it. We didn’t stay until the sun set because it was an hour and half drive back to the hotel and my dad didn’t want to drive at night in case a moose or a bear are out for a walk. 😂 The trail ends on a cliff overlooking the ocean, and did I mention that, YOU SHOULD TOTALLY GO HERE IF YOU EVER VISIT NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA! We took lots of pictures and videos; see below. The view was breathtaking!

We had a very comfortable sleep, and we woke up with a beautiful view! We had a big breakfast! And The next day we went hiking on the trails very close to the hotel. My favorite was the Middle Head Trail because when we got to the end we saw crashing waves, an endless ocean, and tiny little islands with tiny little black birds on them. I thought they were puffins or penguins but they weren’t.

That’s all for this post, I hope you enjoyed it, the pictures of the food, the views, and maybe even learned something? 🤨😛 hehehe, see you next time!

Have you ever been to the Cabot Trail?

  1. I’m guessing the trail is named for Cabot the explorer, though I could be wrong.

The pictures are grand, more so your narrative. You write with clarity and spirit. I’m happy to read that you and yours had such a great time there.

    1. Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it! No one has ever said that I write with clarity and spirit before! That’s very nice of you 🙂

  2. Thanks for that exciting description! I can’t wait to see Nova Scotia someday! I’m with you on forest bathing too. I’m impressed by how you’re so close to nature here in Canada, even in a city like Calgary

  3. Anita and I drove the Cabot Trail quite a few years ago on a trip to Maine, New Brunswick, PEI and Nova Scotia. I think we were staying in Oxford or Amherst, but cannot remember (an old brain!) unless I get the pics out. What an amazing place!! 😊

    1. Oh wow! I bet you had a fun time driving along that crazy road! Have a nice day! 🙂

      1. I love driving and really enjoyed it! If you and your family are ever in Kentucky we’ll take you on a similar drive from Lex to Shakertown, going by the Kentucky River on Rt 68. 😉
If you use maps.Google you can “drive” the road.

  4. Great pictures! I wanted to do the Cabot Trail when I went to Nova Scotia but ran out of time. So Ill just live vicariously through your post until I can make my way up there again 🙂

    1. AWW, that’s sad, hopefully you get to experience this breathtaking trail another time 🙂
